“She’s already 21!” how was the fate of “the girl on basketball”

Tsyan Hongyan’s journey is a testament to resilience and determination, especially for individuals with disabilities. Despite losing both her legs in a car accident at the age of four, Tsyan refused to let her circumstances define her.

Initially without access to prosthetic legs due to financial constraints, Tsyan’s grandfather ingeniously crafted a makeshift mobility aid using a basketball cut in half. This makeshift solution, though unconventional, allowed Tsyan to move around independently, albeit with additional effort.

A video showcasing Tsyan’s unique method of mobility went viral, earning her the nickname “the basketball girl” and international recognition. Despite the challenges, Tsyan persevered, attending school and demonstrating remarkable determination.

At the age of eight, with government assistance, Tsyan received artificial legs, marking a significant milestone in her journey. With her newfound mobility, Tsyan pursued her passion for swimming, ultimately achieving her dream of competing in the Paralympic Games in 2016.

Today, Tsyan is a celebrated swimming champion, inspiring countless individuals with her story of resilience and triumph over adversity. Her journey serves as a beacon of hope for those facing obstacles, reminding us that with perseverance and determination, anything is possible.
