Popular Retailers on the Brink: A Comprehensive Overview of Store Closures

Target, grappling with increasing burglary and “organized retail crime,” plans to shutter nine stores across four states. Despite efforts such as increasing security personneI, employing third-party guard services, and implementing theft deterrent tools, challenges with crime persisted. The affected markets and remaining stores are as follows:

New York City:

Harlem: 517 E 117th St. (96 remaining stores, over 20,000 employees)
Seattle:

College Way: 4535 College Way NE
Ballard: 1448 NW Market St., Ste. 100 (22 remaining stores, nearly 4,000 employees)
San Francisco/Oakland:

SF Folsom: 1690 Folsom St.
Oakland Broadway: 2650 Broadway
Pittsburgh: 4301 Century Blvd. (32 remaining stores, over 6,400 employees)

Portland:

Gallery: 939 SW Morrison St.
Powell: 3031 SE Powell Blvd.
Hollywood: 4030 NE Halsey St. (15 remaining stores, over 2,500 employees)
Despite the closures, over 150 stores will continue operations in these areas. Target is enhancing security measures by locking cases for certain products and collaborating with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations division. “While we will continue to make significant investments across our business, we cannot address this issue alone,” the company emphasized.
