Elsa Campbell, 76, was heartbroken after losing her husband, Lionel. For two years, she shut herself away, only allowing her son Simon into her room. Gradually, with her family’s support, Elsa began to return to normal life.
One day, Elsa saw an ad for a chess club for the elderly and decided to join. At the club, she met Arthur, a widower who shared her passion for chess. They quickly grew close, but Elsa was embarrassed to tell Simon about Arthur, fearing his reaction.
Simon first noticed Arthur when he saw him drop Elsa off at home. She lied, saying, “He’s just a member of my club,” to avoid any confrontation. However, Simon later found out the truth when he visited Elsa in the hospital after she injured her leg. Seeing Elsa with Arthur, Simon asked, “Mom! Why did you have to lie to me?”
Elsa, ashamed, admitted she was afraid Simon would be horrified. But Simon surprised her with his support, saying, “I was just pretending to be upset, mom. You don’t have to feel bad about anything… I’m happy for you, mom!”
Eventually, Simon and Arthur became close, understanding that both Elsa and Arthur needed companionship. Simon even surprised them with a destination wedding in Miami, where he humorously objected, “I am so jealous he is taking my mom away!”
In the end, Elsa found happiness again, proving that love can find us at any age.
