Old Lady Disinherits Grandson, Leaves Him Only a Bible & Note Saying, ‘Open It When It’s Hard’ – Story of the Day

Mike’s grandmother, Grace, had passed away after a bitter fight. Six years ago, she’d insisted Mike attend church, but he refused, and they never spoke again. When Grace died, she left him only a Bible with a note that read, “Open it when it’s hard.” At the time, Mike felt abandoned and angry, especially after learning she’d left everything to the church, including her house. He’d hoped for the money, but all he got was the Bible.

Now, with his mother, Kaila, facing a steep medical bill, Mike was desperate. He opened the Bible, muttering about his grandmother’s pettiness. But inside, he found a hidden surprise—thousands of dollars stuffed in the pages. Grace had left him the money, a gift that would help with his mother’s treatments.

Mike broke down, regretting his resentment. As a child, he’d gone to church with Grace, but he’d grown disillusioned. Now, he saw the wisdom in her tough love.

His mother, once she recovered, was touched but insisted Mike keep some of the money. “Maybe we could sell something instead,” she said.

“No, Mom. This is for you,” Mike replied, smiling through his tears.

From then on, Mike and Kaila attended church every Sunday, not out of obligation, but to honor Grace’s final lesson.
