Salena Webb, a Halloween enthusiast and mother of four from South Carolina, loves decorating her yard with spooky scenes. This year, she went all out, transforming her yard into a haunted graveyard with ghosts, spiderwebs, tombstones, and even skeletons carrying a casket. But when her neighbor asked her to take down part of her display, she didn’t hesitate.
Her neighbor explained that his elderly father, recently diagnosed with lung cancer, felt unsettled by the casket in her yard. The garage where he often sat faced Salena’s display, and the sight was a painful reminder. Salena immediately understood, saying she didn’t want her decorations to add to the family’s stress. “Kindness is free, and compassion goes a long way,” she shared.
Without complaint, Salena removed the casket, swapped the skeletons’ props for badminton rackets, and relocated the scarier decorations to her backyard. Though initially a bit sad, she knew it was the right thing to do. Her kind gesture went viral on TikTok, with many praising her for being a thoughtful neighbor.
Her neighbor thanked her, saying, “You’re good people.” Salena later brought him a card and balloons, offering support beyond her display. As one TikTok user commented, “Kindness doesn’t cost anything. Thank you!” Salena’s story is a reminder that compassion can make any season a little brighter.
