My SIL Ruined My Dress — Is My Revenge Justified?

My pregnant sister-in-law, Cindy, ruined my dress just days before my 18th birthday. Despite my brother George’s wish for forgiveness, I wasn’t letting it slide. George, 27, has always been my protector, and even after he married Cindy and she became pregnant, he remained supportive.

Our interactions with Cindy were always polite but distant, and I often felt she resented the special bond I shared with George. When she cut my dress and destroyed my shoes, I was devastated.

My parents were furious and demanded Cindy pay for the damages. She refused, attributing her behavior to pregnancy hormones. My parents insisted on accountability, but Cindy stood her ground. George tried to calm the situation, but I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I remembered the baby cam I used to watch my dog, Bruno, which had recorded Cindy’s actions. I warned Cindy I would use the footage as evidence if she didn’t pay up. She refused again, so I posted the video on social media, tagging friends and family.

The video went viral, and Cindy, fearing repercussions at work, reluctantly paid me the $80 I demanded. George and Cindy left our house, upset by my parents’ siding with me.

Reflecting on the incident, I questioned if I was too harsh. While pregnancy hormones might explain Cindy’s irrational behavior, her refusal to make amends showed a lack of respect and accountability. Despite the guilt over affecting their baby fund, I felt it was crucial to stand firm on my principles.
