Jessica felt a surge of panic as she faced an unfamiliar city with three young children in tow. Her husband, Alex, had abandoned them, leaving her to manage alone. Determined to keep her children safe and make Alex regret his decision, she formulated a bold plan.
When we received the invitation to visit a new city, I felt uneasy. Alex was excited, promising adventure. However, upon arrival, Alex abandoned us to meet a “friend,” leaving me overwhelmed.
Struggling with my anxiety, I decided to confront him. I tracked Alex’s location and, with the kids in tow, found him alone at a bar, no friend in sight. My anger flared.
“Alex, what’s going on here?” I demanded.
Alex turned, startled. “Jessica, what are you doing here?”
“You lied! There’s no friend, is there?”
He stammered, “I just needed a break.”
“A break? I’ve managed everything since we arrived!”
“Kids, order whatever you want! Daddy is treating us tonight!” I announced. The kids, excited, rushed to the counter. Alex stood, baffled.
“Have fun, Alex. I’m going to explore the city,” I said, leaving him with the kids.
As I stepped outside, I took a deep breath. It was time to enjoy the rest of my vacation on my terms. I smiled, heading to a fancy diner, determined to reclaim my adventure. Alex would soon realize the weight of his selfish actions as he navigated the city alone with three energetic children. It was my turn to have a break and enjoy the city.
