My Best Friend Gave Me the Wrong Dress Code for Her Wedding – I Decided to Outplay Her Smartly

When Elle got engaged to Brian, I was thrilled and eager to help plan her dream wedding. Having been through so much together, I expected to be involved, just as she had been for mine. We shared every major milestone and even worked together, so I offered advice on venues, flowers, and more.

However, Elle started acting secretively, saying she wanted the wedding location to be a surprise. When I finally received my invitation, the dress code was “Mermaid.” Confused but trusting her, I prepared accordingly.

One day, a colleague, Jane, mentioned her excitement about dressing up for Elle’s wedding. When I asked about her costume, she was puzzled. Her invitation specified a cocktail dress code, not mermaid.

Feeling hurt and sidelined, I attended the wedding in a long gray dress. During the reception, Elle confronted me about my attire. I revealed Jane’s invitation details, and Elle confessed she was afraid I’d outshine her, as everyone compared our weddings.

“Elle, you never had to compete with me,” I reassured her. “Your wedding is beautiful, and so are you. We’re friends. I would never overshadow you.”

Tears welled up in her eyes. “I’m so sorry, Em. I let my insecurities get the best of me.”

I hugged her. “Let’s enjoy this day together, like we’ve always done.”

The tension melted away, and we shared a genuine moment of reconciliation, embracing the joy of her special day.
