Man rejected by panhandler after offering honest work – so he makes brilliant sign of his own

Ryan Bray from Florida encountered a homeless man while on his route home from work. Instead of offering spare change, Ryan proposed a job at his family business, paying $15/hour. However, the beggar rejected the offer, preferring to continue begging on the streets.

Disappointed by the beggar’s refusal to improve his situation, Ryan took action. He returned home, created a sign, and went back to the same street corner. His sign warned against giving money to beggars and recounted his failed attempt to help the homeless man.

Ryan’s sign read, “I offered him $15.00 an hour to do yardwork for me, and he refused. If we as a community stop paying them, they will leave our neighborhood!” The homeless man denied ever receiving the job offer and accused Ryan of lying.

Reflecting on the encounter, Ryan shared, “He reached his arms inside my vehicle, resting them, and said, ‘Hey, do you have any money?’ I said, ‘No, I have one better for you.’”

Ryan’s experience highlights the challenge of helping those who are unwilling to help themselves. Despite offering a lifeline, the homeless man chose to remain on the streets, demonstrating the difficulty in effecting lasting change without genuine commitment from those in need.
