Sienna’s Saturday started normally—cleaning up while her husband, Bruce, visited his mother with their son. But when she saw a strange email on his iPad about a hot water outage at Crestwood Apartments, her gut told her something was off. Bruce brushed it off as a mistake before the call cut out, but Sienna couldn’t shake the feeling.
She searched online and found Crestwood was 20 minutes away. Unable to let it go, she drove there, calling her best friend Lexi for backup. Lexi suggested she call maintenance, pretending to have a delivery for Bruce. The maintenance man hesitated before saying Bruce might be the man visiting a woman in Apartment 2B.
Sienna and Lexi knocked. A familiar voice answered. When the door opened, Sienna gasped. “Mom?”
Her mother, looking guilty, let them in. The apartment was small but comfortable, filled with familiar touches. Sienna’s mother admitted she had left Sienna’s father after his temper became unbearable. Bruce had quietly helped her find a safe place and paid for the apartment, keeping the secret at her request.
Tears welled in Sienna’s eyes as the truth settled. While she had feared the worst, Bruce had been protecting her mother all along.
“You’re coming home with me,” Sienna said firmly.
That night, she called Bruce. “I found Mom’s apartment.”
“I wanted to tell you,” he said softly.
“I know. Thank you.”
Bruce had done what family does—protect each other. And Sienna loved him more than ever for it.
