When Portia wakes up to find her husband Hunter missing, she’s consumed by suspicion. The next night, she follows him and uncovers a secret that threatens their bond. Can their love survive the truth?
I’ve always held on too tight, afraid of losing those I love. Growing up in a neglectful, abusive home left me with deep-seated insecurities. Hunter, kind and stable, was my savior. But my fear of losing him became overbearing.
Our arguments grew frequent. “Portia, you need to give me some space!” Hunter would shout. I clung tighter, terrified of abandonment.
One night, I woke up to find Hunter gone. Panic set in. The next night, I followed him to a bar, watching him laugh with friends. Anger boiled over as I confronted him.
“You treat me like a child,” he said. “You don’t let me live my own life. I need space, Portia. You’ve lost me already.”
His words stung. Realizing my fear had driven him away, I offered a compromise: I’d leave for the night so he could have space with his friends. He agreed.
That night, Hunter invited his friends over. It felt strange, but I stayed true to my word. By morning, he thanked me. “I want us to work, Hunter. I’ll do whatever it takes.”
“We’ll make it work. Together,” he replied, hugging me.
For the first time in a while, I felt hopeful. We both understood the importance of trust and independence. Rebuilding our relationship would be a long road, but we were willing to take it one step at a time.
