He was a real American. Famous country singer found dead this morning at his home in Texas.

Kinky Friedman, the iconic satirist, musician, and writer, has passed away at 79. His family announced that he stepped “on a rainbow” at his beloved Echo Hill, surrounded by loved ones. Known for his wit and resilience, Friedman was a unique figure in country music and American culture. His debut album Sold American (1973) launched his career, and he even toured with Bob Dylan during the Rolling Thunder Revue. As the first full-blooded Jew to perform at the Grand Ole Opry, he made history. Besides his music, Friedman was a bestselling author and political figure, running for Governor of Texas in 2006. Reflecting on his life, he once imagined a peaceful afterlife, filled with books, old dogs, and cigar smoke.
