Every day, Adam, 8, and Peter, 10, walked along the beach with their mom, Alice. They noticed an old man sitting in the same spot, watching the sea. Curious, Adam once asked, “Mom, is that man okay?”
Alice explained, “He just likes being alone.” But the boys couldn’t help but wonder why he sat there motionlessly every day.
One day, they decided to approach him. They threw a frisbee toward him, and when they apologized, the old man surprised them by pointing out their skills—Adam’s throwing and Peter’s catching. They were amazed he had been watching them.
After some small talk, Peter asked, “Why do you sit here every day?”
The old man, Walter, revealed that he had been waiting for his brother for 10 years. They had been separated in the army, promised to meet at the beach, but Walter’s brother, James, had gone missing. Walter showed them James’s dog tag, the only thing he had left of him.
Moved by his story, the boys used social media to spread the word. Days later, they found Walter’s brother, James, who recognized them from their post.
James had suffered memory loss after a battle injury, but the post helped him remember Walter. The brothers were reunited after 44 years.
As a token of gratitude, Walter and James gave Adam and Peter their army dog tags, saying, “Always take care of each other.” The boys now visited the brothers often, knowing the power of family and kindness.
