“Am I mistaken?”

A churchgoer shared her discomfort after seeing a woman at Sunday service covered in tattoos and piercings. To her, church represents modesty and reverence, and she felt the woman’s appearance was inappropriate. After approaching her and commenting on her looks, the woman replied, “How I look has nothing to do with you.” This response made the churchgoer question her reaction and wonder if her discomfort stemmed from outdated beliefs.

The issue raised broader questions: Should there be dress standards in church, or should worship focus on acceptance? Many people today express themselves through tattoos and unique clothing, and some believe that respecting individuality is as important as upholding the sanctity of the space. Churches might consider encouraging respectful attire while embracing personal expression, fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome. After all, faith calls for acceptance, as Jesus did for those society often excluded.
