My MIL Thought I Was Not Beautiful Enough for Her Son, So I Entered a Beauty Contest to Win the Crown — Story of the Day

David and I had just returned from our honeymoon, but my mother-in-law, Gertrude, was relentless in her criticism. At a family dinner, she dismissed my cooking and makeup, finally saying, “Grace, you’re not beautiful enough for my son.” This hurtful comment pushed me to enter a beauty contest, not just to prove myself to her, but to validate my own self-worth.

David was supportive, telling me, “You should do it for yourself.” I threw myself into the competition, training hard and making friends with other contestants like Katie. Despite Chloe’s sabotage attempts, including spilling makeup and undermining others, I stayed focused on my goal.

On the contest day, I showcased a clothing collection designed to support families in need. The audience responded positively, and I felt proud of my contribution. Gertrude, however, tried to undermine me, but I didn’t let it affect my performance.

Backstage, I discovered that Katie’s dress was ruined. I decided to help her by giving her my own gown, despite it being a significant sacrifice. Katie wore my dress and looked stunning, while I wore a simpler outfit. Katie won the contest, and I received the People’s Choice award.

Confronting Gertrude afterward, I said, “I’ve shown my worth, and no amount of sabotage can change that.” David added, “It’s time you accept her for who she is.” With that, we left Gertrude behind and celebrated our victory and love together.
