Five years ago, Ava stood at the altar, ready to start a new life with Daniel. But tonight, her dreams lay shattered on the kitchen table, replaced by a cruel reality: a spreadsheet calculating the ‘cost’ of her love.
“There’s something important I need to talk about,” Daniel said, his voice strained. Ava’s excitement for their anniversary dinner fizzled out.
Being a full-time stay-at-home mother wasn’t easy, especially after leaving her job in finance. She sacrificed her career to build their family, enduring fertility treatments until their son, Ben, was born.
On their fifth anniversary, Daniel coldly dismissed her plans. “We need to talk,” he said, returning home late. He handed Ava a document, a detailed budget breakdown. “I’ve calculated how much you’ve cost me. It’s devastating.”
Ava was speechless. Daniel continued, “I could have bought a house or a jet. Instead, I have a wife living off my shoulders. I need you to pay me back.”
Ava managed to say, “I’ll pay you back, but give me time.” Daniel agreed, indifferent.
Over the next days, Ava meticulously documented her contributions to their marriage: cooking, cleaning, emotional support, and the salary she sacrificed. She calculated everything.
Four days later, she handed Daniel her own bill. The total was $500,000. Daniel was shocked. “This can’t be right.”
“Seems my contributions were worth more than groceries and rent,” Ava replied. “Respect and understanding are pillars of any marriage, Daniel. Right now, all I see are cracks.”
“I’ve talked to my lawyer,” she continued. “We’re done.”
Ava learned her worth was beyond a number on a spreadsheet. She deserved better.
