Our Teen Daughter Demanded $15K for Her Birthday and When We Found Out Why, It Broke Our Hearts

My husband and I had yearned for a child, but after years of failed attempts, we turned to adoption. Lucy, a quiet girl from foster care, became our daughter. Initially, she seemed happy, but over time, she withdrew and became distant.

On Lucy’s 14th birthday, she shocked us by demanding $15,000. Tearfully, she explained that she needed the money to reunite with her younger brother Alex, who was still in foster care. Her revelation shattered us; we had no idea she had a sibling, let alone one still separated from her.

Determined to mend our family, we delved into the adoption process for Alex. The wait was agonizing, filled with paperwork and uncertainty. Lucy, anxious and hopeful, clung to every update.

Finally, the call came—Alex was available for adoption. We rushed to the foster care center to bring him home. When Lucy saw Alex, tears streamed down her face as she hugged him tightly. Their reunion was a moment of pure joy and relief, filling our hearts with overwhelming happiness.

Bringing Alex into our family changed everything. Lucy’s demeanor transformed from withdrawn to vibrant. Our home echoed with laughter and love as we celebrated their bond and our newfound completeness.

As we sat together one evening, watching a movie, Lucy turned to us with tears of gratitude in her eyes. “Thank you for bringing Alex home. I love you both.”

“We love you too, Lucy,” my husband said, squeezing her hand. “Our family is finally whole.”

The journey had been arduous, but it brought us closer together. We didn’t just gain a daughter and a son; we gained a deeper understanding of love, resilience, and the profound meaning of family.
