Woman Goes to Neighbor’s Garage Sale, Finds Her Missing Daughter’s Jacket — Story of the Day

Kaylee walked around the city, putting up flyers about her missing daughter, Amanda. It had been two weeks since Amanda had run away, and despite the police’s best efforts, there were no leads.

One day, after putting up more flyers, Kaylee stopped by her neighbor Angela’s garage sale. As she browsed, she was horrified to see Amanda’s jacket—the one she wore the night she disappeared.

“Where did you get this?” Kaylee demanded, her voice shaking.

Angela, startled, replied, “I bought it at a second-hand store near the bus station.”

Kaylee rushed to the store and asked the seller if he remembered the girl who sold the jacket. He hesitated but eventually recalled a girl who needed money for a bus ticket. She left in a hurry, but he didn’t know where she went.

Kaylee’s heart sank as she wandered to the bus station, showing Amanda’s photo to workers, but no one remembered seeing her. Defeated, she sat on a bench, clutching the jacket. As she slipped her hands into the pockets, she found a folded piece of paper with an address.

The address led to a neighboring town, where Amanda’s biological mother lived. Kaylee drove there, her heart pounding. When she knocked on the door, a disheveled woman answered. “Amanda was here but left,” she said indifferently.

Feeling desperate, Kaylee turned to leave and saw a girl sitting on an abandoned house’s porch. “Amanda!” she shouted.

“Mom!” Amanda cried, running into Kaylee’s arms.

Amanda explained she had been living in the abandoned house, feeling abandoned herself. Kaylee reassured her, saying, “You’re my daughter, Amanda. I was so worried about you.”

They hugged tightly, tears mixing with the rain. “Let’s go home,” Kaylee whispered, holding Amanda close. They walked to the car together, relieved to have found each other.
