I’m Scared To Give Birth Because of My Mother-In-Law

When Alex and I met in college, our love story began like a rom-com. I was a dreamy literature major, and he was a practical engineering student. We shared a quirky, fun relationship, balancing poetry slams with debates over Star Wars. After graduation, we moved to his hometown, Willow Creek, where life initially seemed perfect. However, the presence of his over-involved mother, Mrs. Harlow, soon created tension.

When we announced my pregnancy, her daily visits and constant meddling escalated. The real strain came when I staged a false labor to test Alex’s priorities, fearing his divided loyalties. As suspected, he chose his mother over me, breaking my trust.

My fear of childbirth, rooted in losing my mother during my birth, added to my anxiety. Alex’s failure to support me deepened my fear of facing labor alone. Thankfully, my best friend Mia stepped in, providing unwavering support and calming my nerves.

Despite the turmoil, Mia’s presence reminded me of the strength in chosen family. Her support helped me navigate the complexities of marriage, impending motherhood, and setting boundaries. As I prepare to give birth, Mia’s steadfast support reassures me that I’m not alone, emphasizing the importance of resilience and the power of true friendship in overcoming life’s challenges.
