The former president Jimmy Carter lives in a house worth $210,000 and shops at the local Dollar General

James Earl Carter Jr. was born in Plains, Georgia on October 1, 1924, to James Earl Carter Sr., a successful businessman, and Bessie Lilian, a nurse. Following his father’s military footsteps, Carter attended the Naval Academy after high school. In 1946, he married Rosalynn, whom he described as compatible.

After retiring from the Navy, Carter focused on family and business, building a modest home valued at $209,996 in 1961. Refusing to profit from his presidency, he returned to Plains after his tenure. Despite financial struggles, he chose simplicity over wealth, even flying commercial and shopping at Dollar General.

Carter’s post-presidency activities included teaching at Emory University and leading a Baptist Sunday School. Known for his frugality, he aimed to live comfortably without excessive spending, a stark contrast to some of his predecessors. Despite his modest lifestyle, Carter remained a respected figure, embodying humility and service.
