A woman turned to Reddit asking if she was wrong for refusing to let her son’s ex-lover meet her daughter. Eleven years earlier, her 33-year-old son and his then-girlfriend Erica had decided not to keep their baby. Since the woman and her husband were unable to have more children, they adopted and raised the child as their own, never revealing the truth about her parentage.

Over the years, they maintained limited contact with their son and a strained relationship with Erica, despite financially supporting her during college. Recently, Erica asked to meet the girl, but the couple refused, fearing it would emotionally harm their daughter, who struggles with anxiety. This decision caused backlash from their son and Erica’s family, leaving the woman unsure if she was wrong.

Despite financial support and strained relationships, the couple raised the daughter without revealing the truth about her birth parents. Recently, Erica expressed a desire to meet their daughter, prompting a disagreement. The woman, concerned about their daughter’s anxiety and ongoing therapy, wanted to wait for the right time to disclose the adoption.

Confused by the sudden reaction from others, including Erica’s parents, the woman sought guidance on the situation. While some supported her decision to prioritize their daughter’s well-being, others criticized her for withholding the truth and denying Erica access.
