Emma, a respected family psychologist, returned home after work to find a black envelope in her mail reading, “Truth about your husband.” Inside were explicit photos of her younger husband, John, with another man, and a note demanding she publicly renounce her conservative values or risk the pictures being leaked.
Shocked and furious, Emma confronted John, who admitted to a short affair with someone named “Reuben.” Their son, Caleb, interrupted, so they calmed him before discussing the letter privately. John urged compliance to protect their reputation.
That night, Emma noticed an address on the letter and drove to a rundown building. Inside, she found nothing until a new envelope appeared, warning that further investigation would lead to an immediate leak. She had 24 hours to choose between her husband’s life or her career.
Desperate, Emma briefly considered poisoning John but couldn’t go through with it. She decided instead to sacrifice her career. The next morning, she prepared a live broadcast to confess her husband’s infidelity.
Just as she began speaking, a security guard delivered another envelope: “Justice was served. Your husband is dead; the condition has been fulfilled.” Panicked, Emma tried calling John, but he didn’t answer.
Caleb told her John had left angrily after seeing her broadcast. Moments later, Lucy, her assistant, revealed police reported John’s fatal car crash. They suspected he was driving under the influence.
Realizing her earlier actions—spiking his wine—may have contributed, Emma broke down in grief, consumed by guilt over her husband’s death.
