My Aunt Stole the $3,765 I Spent a Year Saving to Take My Mom to the Ocean – She Thought She Could Get Away With It

I worked late shifts and skipped every party, saving nearly $4,000 to surprise my mom, Jade, a cancer survivor, with a trip to the ocean. Mom had been my rock since Dad left six years ago, working two jobs daily to keep us afloat. When cancer hit, it shattered our world, but we fought and won. After months of chemo, Mom went into remission, and I promised to give her a dream getaway.

I took on double shifts at the diner and wrote essays for classmates, sacrificing everything for this surprise. After 11 months, my savings reached $3,765—enough for flights, a hotel, and spending money. But then my Aunt Viola found out and convinced me to trust her with the money, promising to handle the bookings.

Days passed with no updates. When I confronted her, she confessed she’d spent the money on a new car instead. I was crushed—my year of sacrifice stolen by family. I couldn’t tell Mom, not yet.

Then Marcus, Viola’s boyfriend, reached out. He handed me an envelope with the exact amount, saying justice would be served. At a fancy dinner, Marcus revealed Viola’s betrayal in front of her friends and coworkers, shaming her publicly. Viola’s reputation was ruined, and soon after, her new car was repossessed.

Now, Mom and I are finally at Seaview Bay, the ocean stretching before us. Despite the pain, I’ve learned that true family is about love and integrity. And sometimes, justice comes from the most unexpected places.
