The White House responded to criticism over a “double standard” regarding attire after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was questioned for not wearing a suit during his Oval Office meeting with President Trump. Zelenskyy, who has worn military-style clothing since Russia’s invasion, responded that he would wear a suit “once the war is over.”
Critics pointed out that Elon Musk, head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), often attends cabinet meetings in casual attire. When asked about this, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted Musk “did wear a suit last night” for Trump’s speech to Congress.
Pressed on whether Musk’s decision was influenced by the controversy, Leavitt dismissed the speculation, simply stating, “I think the president liked that very much, and he looked great.”
The debate over attire continues to spark discussions about political optics and perceived double standards in Washington.
