When Marilyn agreed to leave her house every weekend so Scott could spend time with his son, Ben, she thought she was being understanding. But after months, she returned home unexpectedly and saw the truth.
Marilyn had built a bond with six-year-old Ben, but after marrying Scott, his ex-wife Patricia insisted she stay away during visits. Scott convinced Marilyn it was temporary to keep the peace. Though it felt unfair, she complied for Ben’s sake.
One Friday, Marilyn had enough. She turned her car around and returned home. The house was too quiet—Ben wasn’t there. Instead, she found Scott on the couch with Patricia, who was wearing Marilyn’s pajamas.
“What the hell is going on?” she demanded.
Patricia smirked. “Ben’s at my mother’s. He’s always there Fridays.”
Realization hit. “This was never about Ben, was it?”
Patricia laughed. “Smart girl. Scott wanted another chance with me. Sending you away was his idea.”
Marilyn played a recording of Scott professing love for her and dismissing Patricia as petty. Patricia, furious, threw a slipper at him and stormed out.
Ignoring Scott’s pleas, Marilyn calmly packed his belongings and threw them onto the lawn.
“Now pick up your junk and get out of my life,” she said.
Scott begged, but Marilyn stood firm.
As he left, her phone buzzed. It was her mom: “Everything okay?”
Marilyn smiled. “Perfect. No one is ever kicking me out of my place again.”
