Miranda, a struggling actress, faces another rejection when a casting director tells her she’s “not interesting enough.” With little money left, she spots a strange ad in a store: “Looking for a woman to pretend to be my son’s girlfriend. Will pay well.” Desperate, Miranda calls the number, and by evening, she meets Leslie, a wealthy woman who hires her to break up her son Jack’s wedding to a woman named Katie. Leslie promises $10,000 if Miranda succeeds.
Miranda secures a job as Jack’s assistant but struggles to get his attention. Eventually, they form a bond, and Miranda begins to question Leslie’s motives after meeting Katie, who is kind and loving toward Jack. When Leslie demands Miranda go further to sabotage the relationship, Miranda’s guilt grows.
One night, while Jack is working late, Katie arrives with dinner, and Miranda can’t keep up the deception any longer. She confesses everything to Jack and Katie, who are shocked but understanding. They devise a plan to expose Leslie, sending fake photos to her and gathering incriminating messages.
At the rehearsal dinner, they reveal the truth to the guests, and Leslie is kicked out. Grateful for Miranda’s help, Jack offers her a theater role, and Katie invites her to stay for dinner. Miranda, overwhelmed with gratitude, realizes that kindness and redemption can come from unexpected places.
