Grandma Saw the Sweater She Knitted for Her Granddaughter Donated and Decided It Was Time for a Talk About Appreciation — Story of the Day

At a bustling clothing drive, Sarah’s heart sank when she discovered a knitted sweater she had made for her granddaughter, Violet, among the donations. She recognized the embroidered initials and felt a pang of sadness.

Her friend Emily noticed Sarah’s shift in mood. “Is everything okay?” she asked. Sarah hesitated before softly saying, “This sweater… it’s the one I gave to Violet.”

Emily’s eyes widened. “Oh no, she wouldn’t just discard it, would she?”

“I think she did,” Sarah replied, tracing the initials. “Maybe it wasn’t her style.”

Later, Sarah called Violet, who quickly dismissed her concern. “Oh, I wear it all the time, Grandma!” Violet said, but Sarah felt something was off. The next day, Sarah visited her son, Robert, and handed him a new sweater for Violet. When she mentioned finding the original sweater at the drive, Robert was furious.

“Violet! Where’s the sweater Grandma gave you?” he demanded.

Violet reluctantly admitted to discarding it, calling it “ugly.” Robert scolded her harshly, but Sarah quietly left the house, heartbroken.

The following day, Violet came to Sarah’s door, her face filled with regret. “I’m sorry, Grandma. I didn’t appreciate your gift. If I could, I’d take it back.”

Sarah smiled warmly, pulling the sweater from the closet and handing it to Violet. “I knew you’d want it one day.”

Violet hugged her tightly. “Thank you, Grandma. I love you.”
