Alicia cradled her son Edduin, soothing him after another sleepless night. His constant restlessness worried her, so she installed a baby monitor to keep a closer eye on him.
Months earlier, Alicia had been overjoyed to discover she was pregnant, only for tragedy to strike when her husband, John, died in a car accident just before Edduin’s birth. Alone and heartbroken, Alicia took over John’s business while caring for her son. But as the months went by, Edduin’s tiredness grew concerning; he seemed exhausted and uninterested in his toys.
One afternoon, Alicia heard giggling from Edduin’s room. Confused, she opened the door, but found no one inside. Dismissing it as stress, she continued monitoring her son. Then, one night, she noticed sudden movement on the monitor. Alarmed, she dashed to his room.
As she burst through the door, terror gripped her—Edduin wasn’t alone. But relief washed over her when she spotted a scruffy little dog circling his crib. It was dirty and weak, hiding behind the crib as Edduin giggled.
Alicia recognized the dog; it was Doblo, their beloved pet who had passed away. In her grief, she had forgotten to close the dog door.
Understanding the connection, Alicia decided to adopt the little creature. Naming him Casper, she found joy in watching Edduin play. With Casper by his side, Edduin’s laughter returned, bringing happiness back into their lives.
