Shirley, a nurse living in the US, trusted her younger brother Alex to care for their elderly mother when she moved abroad. Before leaving, she arranged for Alex to visit their mother weekly and ensure her well-being. Three years later, Shirley noticed her mother’s frailty during a visit and proposed Alex move back home, offering financial support. Alex agreed, but instead of moving in, he continued his weekend visits and used the funds for gambling.
Upon her return for the holidays, Shirley was shocked to find her mother alone. Alex had not moved back as promised and had squandered the money. Devastated, Shirley confronted Alex, who dismissively claimed their mother was fine and revealed he’d used the money for gambling.
Determined to ensure her mother’s care, Shirley decided to sell their family home. She arranged for her mother to move in with her family in the US, despite Alex’s objections. With the house sold, Shirley’s family moved into a larger apartment, and her mother arrived three months later.
Shirley was relieved and grateful to have her mother living with her, ensuring she would no longer be lonely or neglected. The family settled into their new life, and Shirley felt a renewed sense of peace knowing her mother was well cared for and surrounded by loved ones.
